We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our Tax ID# is 94-3396038.

How can I volunteer?

To volunteer as an individual you must first sign up on our website and be approved. Once you are an approved volunteer you can log in here (http://app.volunteer2.com/Public/Organization/66ccc9e8-658b-4f96-94a3-e665829f7850/1) to sign up for available shifts at our serving locations.

Do I have to be signed up on the website if I am volunteering with a pre-arranged group?

No, if you are volunteering as a group, the group leader will provide your information to Open Heart Kitchen.

What is your age requirement for volunteers?

Volunteers must be at least 10 years old to volunteer with Open Heart Kitchen. Those who are 10 to 13 years old must have a parent or guardian volunteer with them (The parent/guardian must be also be a registered volunteer). Registered volunteers who are at least 14 years old may volunteer without a parent/guardian.

Do you have a Wish list of items you need donated?

Open Heart Kitchen accepts donations of food as well as supplies and services. In addition we can always use gift cards. For a full list of items please visit the appropriate donation page:

Can I drop off a donation at the Catalina Drive mailing address?

We cannot accept donation drop offs at the Catalina Drive address. It is strictly a mailbox location.

What types of programs/services do you offer?

Open heart Kitchen fulfills our mission through 3 basic meal programs: 1.) The Hot Meal program, 2.) The weekend Box Lunch program, 3.) The Senior Meal Program

  • The Hot meal program provides meals for anyone in need. Hot meals are made from scratch by our volunteers and served from our listed locations; meals can be eaten in or taken to go.
  • The weekend boxed lunch program fills the nutritional gap of low-income children on the USDA school programs. Thru this program Open Heart Kitchen distributes bag lunches on Fridays at schools in Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton
  • The Senior Meal Program addresses the nutritional gap of low-income seniors age 60 and over.

Where can I drop off donations?

All types of donations can be dropped off at our Ridgeview Commons Senior Center serving location Monday – Friday, 10:00AM-5:00PM. Ridgeview Commons is located at 5200 Case Avenue, Pleasanton, CA. Please enter through the main entrance, walk back to the kitchen and ask for a Site Supervisor. For larger food donations please coordinate the donation by emailing operationsdirector@openheartkitchen.org ahead of time.

Can I bring my child when I volunteer?

No, you cannot bring a child when volunteering. You will be volunteering in an industrial kitchen, which is not safe for small children. If your child is 10 years or older you may register them to volunteer with you.

If I have a group that wants to volunteer what should I do?

For information about volunteering with a group, contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteercoordinator@openheartkitchen.org or call (925) 580-1619. Please include the approximate size of your group along with the number of hours your group would like to volunteer for in your email.
