Weekend Bag Lunch Program

Children’s Weekend Bag Lunch Program

Low-income children who receive free school lunches during the week may be left without a nutritious lunch on weekends, undermining their ability to focus and learn when the school week begins anew. To close this nutrition gap, Open Heart Kitchen distributes bags containing two healthy lunches to elementary, middle and high school students of low-income families in Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore every Friday during the academic year. Open Heart Kitchen continues its Bag Lunch Program all summer long.

We also distribute Weekend Bag Lunches to low-income households at The Grove in Dublin Ranch, the HOPE (Homeless Outreach for People Empowerment) Project in Livermore, and at St Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Livermore.

Your $40 donation will provide 15 meals to children in need.

Want to do more? Download the Hungry to Help Family Action Plan published by Feeding America. Learn how to answer when a child asks: “Why doesn’t everyone have enough food to eat?” The Action Plan also includes children’s activity sheets and Hands-on community action ideas. One in six children in the U.S. do not have enough to eat. Help your child develop empathy for others, and take action as a family.
