Open Heart Kitchen’s food distribution of grocery care packages is moving to the Pleasanton Senior Center beginning Tuesday, August 24, 2021. The grocery distribution had been operating at the Alameda County Fairgrounds since June 2020 and managed by Open Heart Kitchen since November 2020 in partnership with Tri-Valley Haven and the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
Due to the increased number of outdoor events including preparations for the annual Alameda County Fair, the grocery distribution needed to move to a new location. The free groceries are given out via drive-thru curbside pickup every Tuesday and Thursday, from 9 am to 3 pm. Those who are picking up groceries are asked to follow the directional signs, answer intake questions, and then the groceries will be placed in the trunk of the vehicle.
“There are hundreds of families that have come to us during the COVID-19 pandemic for the first time. As long as the prolonged effects of the pandemic continue, we will provide emergency food assistance.” said Heather Greaux, Executive Director. The food distribution is funded through December by the Alameda County Social Services Agency and the cities of Pleasanton, Livermore, and Dublin.
To date, Open Heart Kitchen has served over 2,100 households at the fairgrounds and 1.8 million meals overall. For the most up-to-date information on where to obtain a meal, please visit openheartkitchen.org.
