Open Heart Kitchen is pleased to announce that Kaiser Permanente is the recipient of the 2019 OHK Volunteer Group Award! The award will be presented at Open Heart Kitchen’s annual fundraiser, the Heart of California Party at the Palm Event Center in Pleasanton on Friday, September 13, 2019, for which Kaiser Permanente is a Platinum Level Sponsor. Kaiser employees have volunteered 250 of their time across 6 of our meal service sites, benefiting all 3 of our Meal Programs.

“We always enjoy hosting Kaiser employees because they are a hard-working, energetic group and
they take the time to chat with our diners”

-Shawnda Bost, OHK Volunteer Coordinator

In addition to volunteering, Kaiser Permanente recently awarded Open Heart Kitchen a very generous $40,000 grant for our Bagged Lunch Program. This grant will ensure that more children get access to the nutritious food they need to lead a healthy life.

“The Children’s Weekend Bag Lunch Program supports children who receive free or reduced-price school lunches through the National School Program. Over 4,800 children in the Tri-Valley qualify for this program and we currently serve 2,750 students. The volunteer hours from Kaiser employees and the generous grant has provided critical support to help us close this gap.”

-Heather Greaux, OHK Executive Director
