Open Heart Refuge Overnight shelter for adults, open nightly THE WORK Open Heart Refuge is a 30-bed overnight shelter in Livermore for adults who are in crisis or experiencing homelessness. The shelter operates 7 days a week from 6:00 pm - 8:00 am, and includes both dinner and breakfast. start Open Heart Refuge offers overnight shelter using an assigned bed model. Check-in is from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM, seven days a week. Beds are assigned in advance; there is no nightly lottery. Clients may request to be added to the shelter waitlist by visiting the Vineyard Resource Center. message We believe that providing food, clothing, and shelter are building blocks for dignity, respect, and stability. Sign up today to have an impact on your community by being a VOLUNTEER ! 🤍 How It Works Assigned Beds Open Heart Refuge uses an assigned bed model. All shelter beds are assigned to individual clients rather than distributed through a lottery. Maintaining an Assigned Bed Clients with an assigned bed must check in regularly and communicate with staff if they expect to be away. If a client is absent for more than three consecutive nights without notice, their bed may be reassigned to someone on the waitlist. Waitlist for Shelter Individuals seeking shelter may ask to be added to the waitlist. When a bed becomes available, staff will contact people on the waitlist in order to offer the open bed. Beds are not available for one-night stays, and there is no nightly lottery. VOLUNTEERING We rely on volunteers to help check in our guests nightly. This consists of bag checks, metal wand searches, bagging/tagging items not allowed in the Refuge, handing out packaged dinners, and h elping guests get settled in for the night.
