We accept a range of planned giving options: Wills or Trusts The simplest way to leave a planned gift is to make a bequest including specific language in your will or living trust naming Open Heart Kitchen as the recipient. The following is an example of suggested language to include in your will/trust: “I give and bequeath to Open Heart Kitchen, a California non-profit corporation, located at 1141 Catalina Drive, Suite 137, Livermore CA 94550, the sum of $____, or ______% of my estate, to be used for the accomplishment of its general purpose (or for a specific purpose as indicated).” Retirement Plan Donations or Life Insurance Policies You can name Open Heart Kitchen as the beneficiary of your IRA, 401k or 403b retirement plan or life insurance policy. This is a simple, effective way to support Open Heart Kitchen while reducing or eliminating significant, often unanticipated tax penalties. In addition, after age 70 and a half, you can also use your required minimum distribution up to $100,000 per year as a qualified donation avoiding taxes but satisfying your required minimum distribution. Charitable Gift Annuities A charitable gift annuity is the easiest way to create dependable income for life while also helping Open Heart Kitchen. Please note that Open Heart Kitchen does not administer charitable gift annuities but can recommend an administrator. Charitable Trusts A Charitable Remainder Trust or Charitable Lead Trust allows you to receive an estate or gift tax deduction and create a source of income for you or your loved ones while supporting Open Heart Kitchen. Real Estate/Appreciated Assets A variety of assets can be donated such as real estate, appreciated securities, and tangible personal property such as art or jewelry. Donating appreciated assets can help offset income and capital gains taxes. If you are contemplating gifting an investment property or a vacation home, a gift of real estate offers an excellent option for tax-wise giving. You can also include Open Heart Kitchen as a beneficiary of real estate or appreciated assets in your will. The Vineyard Resource Center serves as Open Heart Kitchen's central hub for meals, shelter, hygiene services, and community partnerships. Opened in 2024, the facility provides a welcoming space where individuals can access food and other essential resources in one location. Watch OHK's Executive Director talk about the Vineyard Resource Center 2025 Impact 836,863 Meals worth of groceries distributed from the Open Heart Food Bank to it's nine Partner Agencies across the Tri-Valley. 114,379 Nourishing prepared meals provided to food-insecure Tri-Valley households through the Community Meal Program. 36,964 Senior Meal Program meals served to 707 clients age 60+. The program serves social lunches every weekday in all three Tri-Valley cities. 21,229 Hours volunteered by 1,071 dedicated community members. This includes preparing and serving meals, assisting shelter guests, and more. 1 0,415 Nights of rest for 185 unhoused folks at Open Heart Refuge. 10,276 meals (dinner and breakfast) were served to shelter guests. Growing to Meet the Need Since its founding in 1995, Open Heart Kitchen has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of the Tri-Valley community. What began as a volunteer-driven meal program has grown into a comprehensive hunger relief organization providing meals, groceries, shelter, and supportive services. Recent milestones include the opening of the Vineyard Resource Center in 2024 and the launch of the Open Heart Food Bank in 2025. Together, these initiatives have expanded our ability to serve individuals and families experiencing food insecurity while strengthening partnerships throughout the region. In recognition of this impact, Open Heart Kitchen was named Assembly District 16 Nonprofit of the Year in 2026. In 2025 alone, Open Heart Kitchen provided 998,482 meals, 10,415 nights of shelter, and support to nine partner agencies. As community needs continue to grow, we remain committed to ensuring equitable access to nutritious food today while building a food-secure tomorrow.

From birthdays and anniversaries to community events and workplace campaigns, third-party fundraisers play a vital role in supporting our mission—and we’re grateful for your interest in getting involved. Start Here: Tell Us About Your Fundraiser We’re so grateful you’re considering Open Heart Kitchen as part of your event or fundraiser! To help us support your efforts and ensure everything runs smoothly, all third-party fundraisers must be reviewed and approved in advance. Please complete our Fundraising Proposal Form before getting started. We ask that submissions be made at least 8 weeks prior to your event. 3rd Party Fundraiser Survey Approval is required before using Open Heart Kitchen’s name or logo. What We Mean by “Third-Party Fundraiser” A third-party fundraiser is any event or activity organized by an individual, group, or business to benefit Open Heart Kitchen. These events are independently run, with limited involvement from our staff, but play a vital role in supporting our mission.
