One year ago, the Open Heart Food Bank first opened its doors with a simple but powerful mission: combat hunger, support local families, and foster a spirit of community and compassion through a collective network of anti-hunger partners. Since its March 2025 opening, Open Heart Kitchen’s food bank has grown into a vital lifeline for hundreds of individuals and families in need here in the Tri-Valley.
As we celebrate the first anniversary of the Open Heart Food Bank, let’s reflect on the incredible milestones achieved, the lives touched, and the promising future that lies ahead.
Open Heart Food Bank — Supporting People in Need
Open Heart Food Bank has established a network of nine partner agencies across the Tri-Valley. These partners serve as accessible hubs where community members can receive groceries and food supplies to nourish their families and sustain their daily lives. The distribution of food has been thoughtfully managed to ensure that those in need receive not just calories, but also nourishment that supports their overall well-being.
Here is the first year of Open Heart Food Bank by the numbers:
9 Partner Agencies receiving food (including churches, pantries, and community centers)
178,594 pounds of recovered food diverted from landfills
836,863 equivalent meals provided
Working together with our community partners and a valued team of volunteers, we maximize the impact of every donation, every pallet rescued, every volunteer hour invested, and speak with a unified voice in favor of a food-justice future.

Open Heart Food Bank Depends on Volunteers
Over the past year, hundreds of volunteers have dedicated their time and energy, embodying the spirit of compassion that drives the Open Heart Food Bank.
From individuals to large groups, our volunteers and staff work tirelessly to ensure our partner agencies have the fresh fruits and vegetables their clients rely on to prepare nutritious meals for their families each week.. This collective effort has not only ensured the sustainability of the program but has also fostered a culture of giving and mutual support within our community.
The Future of Open Heart Food Bank

As we look ahead, our future plans for the Open Heart Food Bank are both ambitious and hopeful. Building on the success of the past year, Open Heart Kitchen aims to expand the food bank’s reach and enhance its services. The food bank also aims to strengthen its partnerships with businesses to increase the variety and quality of food supplies, ensuring that every meal served is both nourishing and enjoyable.
Open Heart Kitchen is committed to advocating for policies that address the root causes of food insecurity and promote social equity. The Open Heart Food Bank seeks to build a more resilient and just food system that benefits anyone and everyone in need.
Celebrating Open Heart Food Bank’s First Year
As Open Heart Kitchen celebrates this milestone, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to every volunteer, donor, partner, and community member who has contributed to the success of the Open Heart Food Bank. Your support has transformed a vision of compassion into a vibrant reality that continues to make a difference in so many lives. Your kindness and dedication remind us that even in challenging times, hope and humanity can prevail.
The first anniversary of the Open Heart Food Bank is not just a celebration of what has been accomplished, but also a call to action for what is yet to come. Together, we can continue to build a community where no one goes hungry, where every person is valued, and where the spirit of giving lights the way forward. As we look to the future, we remain committed to expanding our reach, deepening our impact, and spreading kindness—one meal and one life at a time.
Here’s to a year of compassion, community, and hope—and to many more years of serving with an open heart.
